Growing up with a brother with Autism, I know first hand the immense struggles that children with disabilities face on a daily basis. Imagine going to school everyday with social phobia, excessive worry, obsessive compulsive behavior, phobias, and more. My brother has been fortunate enough to receive great resources to support him throughout the years, but there are a lot of children with disabilities who do not have this kind of support unfortunately. Many public schools do not have the funds to provide disabled students with appropriate accommodations. However, private schools do have the funds and resources to meet their needs, but this is very unrealistic for many families as these schools are very costly.  I believe that all children with special needs deserve the proper resources in order to improve their lives and futures. It is finally the first week of November, which means the best time of year is approaching us. There is something so magical about Thanksgiving and Christmas time. The decorations, the food, family time, cold whether, and traditions all make it so special. It is also a nice time for college students to go back home to their families and take a much needed break. I will be going back home to Newport for both holidays and I couldn't be more excited!  Let's talk about Thanksgiving first. Since I was a baby, every year for Thanksgiving we've gone to my aunt's house. She stays up the entire night to make the most amazing Thanksgiving feast for our entire family. I am always in charge of making the mac and cheese and my mom makes an amazing homemade pumpkin pie. I have not finished The Caste yet, but the past few chapters I have read have been extremely eye-opening. The author refers to herself as a "housing inspector" as she examines the foundations of American caste system. She uses instances from her own life and from history to help the reader understand her points. For example, to help the reader understand the caste system in the US, she discusses forced enslavement and how upper caste people had unlimited power in that scenario. Her personal experiences as an African American woman were vulnerable and helped me understand her points deeper.  Wilkerson shares that caste in India has similar frameworks as the system of the US. She describes that although Hinduism's caste system is older and more elaborate, the consequences for human lives are very similiar. I was very surprised to learn that the Dalits, which were the people of the bottom of the caste in India, were long aware of African American's civil right struggle. ...

For my second book, I have chosen to read Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. Wilkerson is a writer who is well known for her work in the New York Times, which she has received a Pulitzer Prize for. I chose to read Caste because I thought it was interesting how this book touches on past and current events. For example, she goes all the way back to the arrival of the first enslaved people in 1619 all the way up to the current Covid-19 pandemic. After reading the summary for this book, I was instantly intrigued. I was aware that there was a Caste System in India, but I was surprised to learn that the author believes that America has one has well. In this book, she links the caste system of America, India, and Nazi Germany.    I have only read the first two chapters, but they have been interesting so far. For fall break, my friends and I are going to New York City. The city that doesn't sleep/the best place ever! There are countless things that attract me to NYC. The food, the nightlife, the fashion, the culture, the art, and so much more. The last time I was there was for my Birthday in April, which was an absolute blast. I love going during the Spring time because the weather is perfect. This will be my first time visiting during fall and I couldn't be more excited.  Hands down the best part about New York for me is the food. As a certified foodie, I do extensive research and make reservations beforehand. The last time I was there, I had the most incredible Italian food at a restaurant called L'Angolo Tribeca. They are known for their truffle pasta and I can confidently say it was the best pasta I have ever had. Not only was the food spectacular, but the ambiance was just as great.
