SUBJECT: BareMinerals as an investment opportunity

You asked me to recommend a company that is socially responsible, environmentally friendly, and profitable. After much research, I have concluded that BareMinerals should be your first choice as an investment opportunity. Below is a brief overview of the standards of our company followed by information about BareMinerals.

The Triple Bottom Line

Profit: The positive and negative impact an organization has on the local, national, and international economy.

People: The positive and negative impact an organization has on its most important stakeholders. These include employees, families, customers, or any other person being affected by the organization.

Planet: The positive and negative impact an organization has on its natural environment. This includes reducing its carbon footprint, usage of natural resources, toxic materials, and more. (Forbes).

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a corporation’s commitment towards the environment and people.

Social Enterprise

A social enterprise is a cause-driven business that uses its operations to engage in social problems rather than having the maximizing of profits as the primary goal. As creators of clean, cruelty-free beauty products, BareMinerals empowers people to look good, feel good and do good.

Carbon Footprint

A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by human activities. It is important to reduce one’s carbon footprint because greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for global warming.

BareMinerals Background

Leslie Blodgett, the founder of BareMinerals, launched her cosmetics line in 1995. The line began as an effort to create a natural makeup that was less likely to irritate the skin and cause breakouts. All of their products are hypoallergenic, making it the best choice for sensitive skin. In addition, their products are cruelty-free and mostly vegan. Their original foundation revolutionized the beauty industry with its clean, good-for-skin formula. This product has been named the number one prestige loose powder foundation in the U.S. multiple times. In addition, the brand offers a variety of other products such as liners, shadows, mascaras, lipsticks, and more that are all safe for your skin. Twenty-seven years later, and the company remains committed to positively affecting the world with their clean cosmetic products (Blair).

In 2020, BareMinerals began to reduce the amount of plastic used in their collections. They now use recycled rather than virgin plastic, and where possible use paper. The paper material they use is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which indicates that the material is derived from locations and uses methods that protects habitats, prevents pollution, and avoids harming wildlife. They have recycled over 44,000 pounds of plastic through their year-round Give back, Get Back Recycling program. In addition, BareMineral writes that for every purchase made, they donate 1% to The Power of Good Fund by BareMinerals, to help empower women around the world through education, mentorship and entrepreneurship (BetterGoods).
