The second half of American Like Me, was just as fascinating as the first half. The stories really emphasized how America truly celebrates diversity and the effectiveness of multiculturalism. All the stories told are from people with different backgrounds who have all have gone through similar experiences. As a daughter to immigrant parents from Iran myself, it has been so refreshing to read these essays as they are relatable to me.  One of the essays that really stood out to me in the second half was Joy Cho's story. She talked about how she wanted to do everything she could to fit in with the other kids at school when she was younger. She made it her job to teach her parents how to be "American Parents". An example she gave about how she did this was she taught her parents to make her American-style lunches instead of packing her Thai curry for lunch. While those things are attractive, they come at an expensive price. There is a great amount of pressure and exploitation that child stars face in the industry.   For my first book, I have chosen to read American Like Me by America Ferrera. I chose this book because the summary intrigued me the most out of all the other Autobiographical Memoirs. The summary of the book was described as a girl and her experience of growing up in America with immigrant parents. I related to the short summary instantly as l grew up between cultures as well. I was born and raised in America like Ferrera, but I have Persian immigrant parents which is why I knew I would really enjoy reading this book.    American Like Me is a series of essays about what it means to live in America from a range of different people who are either immigrants or children of immigrants. Marketing Intern     What’s a girl who strives to work in the beauty industry doing at the Marshall School of Business? A question that my mother asks me quite frequently, that I don’t have all the answers to. Although I am still figuring out the answers to that question, this summer I was a marketing intern for the Estee Lauder Companies. Specifically, for Too Faced Cosmetics on the Influencer/Events Team.     A Marketing Intern for a beauty company is a person who researches concepts for future promos, presents new event ideas, helps create social media posts, and overall increases the spread of brand awareness. Pretty much we spend most of our time discovering the trendiest and most popular things that appeal to the target audience. Where do I come from?  I come from Newport Beach, which is not too far from here. I've lived in Newport all my life, so moving to LA for school was a big change for me. Although growing up in Newport was definitely fun, I absolutely love living in Los Angeles now. There is a lot more to do here, but I still like to go home every two weeks to visit my family!  Where am I going?  I am hoping to graduate this coming spring and find a cool job here in LA. I want to pursue a career in marketing preferably in the beauty/cosmetics industry.  How I plan to get there?  I honestly don't know, I am still figuring it out.
